Overview

Come grow with us by joining our team as Lead Technician!  In this role, you will play a critical role for the company and will work alongside other professionals within the team and other departments. As the Lead Technician you will diagnose , test, and repair vehicle utilizing computerized diagnostics equipment without supervision. The position requires experience in one or more of the following designations  Automobile (A 1-9), Medium/Heavy Truck (T 1-8), School Bus (S 1-7), and Transit Bus (H 1-8). It requires a minimum of 7 years experience in an automotive service facility and personal tools.  The lead technician must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsement or State Required Equivalent.  The position oversees jobs and reports status and/or completion of the job to Management.

Responsibilities

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

  • Follow instructions given from Operations Manager.
  • Follow Safety policies and work in a safe orderly manner.
  • Report any and all unsafe conditions to Upper Management.
  • Perform inspections and repairs using established procedures.
  • Maintain set of mechanics tools acceptable to the trade for journeymen vehicle mechanics.
  • Assist in supervising and scheduling mechanics and oversee their performance.
  • Dispatch work lists to mechanics as requested.
  • Assist the mechanics, as necessary, with repairs.
  • The Lead Technician oversees jobs and reports status and/or completion of jobs using the work list. He follows up to make sure that paperwork is being completed by mechanics. This includes mechanics writing descriptions of work completed and checking that the time of repair written by the mechanic is accurate. He signs off on all jobs, double-checking that the work is completed to satisfaction of management.
  • The Lead mechanic is also a technical advisor for customers and management. He is expected to assist customers and management with his expertise whenever requested.
  • Test drive vehicles as required.
  • When necessary, responsible for opening and closing of shop and overall supervision when necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus five or more years of recent bus, heavy duty truck or automotive dealership repair experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, starting and charging systems, electrical and electronic systems and component overhaul procedures.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL Class B License
  • ASE Certified – minimum 6-Master Certified
  • Ability to operate all shop equipment.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend and assist other technicians with service literature and parts manuals and to accurately record labor time and parts/services utilized on work order reports.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner.
  • Proven ability to work independently with little or no supervision required.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Ability to direct schedule and assist with daily work schedule.
  • Personal tools; to include electrical diagnostic equipment and roll-away tool chest are required.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to do frequent kneeling, stooping, squatting, crawling, and climbing to perform multiple tasks of position.
  • Must have good manual dexterity
  • Must have the ability to push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to maintain a valid commercial license, which includes successfully completing the DOT medical exam, driving test and all other license requirements.
