Overview

Come grow with us by joining our team as a Shop Foreman!  In this role, you will play a critical role for the company and will work alongside other professionals within the team and other departments. You will assist in supervising technicians and coordinating the functions of the service shop to ensure timely completion and delivery of buses. This position also assists with establishing priorities and closely working with departmental management with reporting status on assigned vehicles. This position also assists mechanics in performing repairs. This position performs quality control and oversees job assignments ensuring the mechanic/utility worker/driver is qualified to perform the job assigned to him. Position must ensure that all buses released from the shop meet company quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

  • Direct and oversee the daily operation of the Service Shop at direction of Service Manager or Operations Manager.
  • Ensure that vehicles are completed in a timely manner in accordance to predetermined production schedule.
  • Assist with daily supervision of all shop employees – technicians, utilities, and drivers.
  • Give instructions for troubleshooting and repairs and when necessary, assist employees to correct job-skill.
  • Distribute Work Orders to technicians, follow up to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Review Technician productivity to ensure jobs are being completed within allotted times.
  • Facilitate the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and department performance goals and objectives, monitor results, and recognize employee, department, and organization accomplishments.
  • Model, facilitate and encourage exemplary internal and external customer service and professional development among staff.
  • Conduct or arrange for worker training (including on-the-job training) in safety, repair, and maintenance. Review various reports distributed by management to ensure Service Shop is operating in the most efficient manner possible and maintaining profitability standards as directed.
  • Run Mechanics Flagging report daily and review (with technicians as needed) in order to understand the technicians’ skills and how to manage their time for maximum productivity as directed.
  • Review technicians Work Order stories for completeness and accuracy on a consistent basis.
  • Review/Answer all customer questions and respond proactively, and positively to customers.
  • Assist with hiring and disciplinary actions with Service Shop employees.
  • Maintain current automotive certifications and continue training to achieve new certifications and stay current with new technologies, traveling for training when necessary.
  • Perform mechanical repairs as necessary at the direction of management. Assist with quality control review on mechanical repairs and vehicle maintenance.
  • Communicate with Service Manager on all aspects of Service Department workflow, customer, and employee issues.
  • Follow safety policies and work in a safe orderly manner.
  • Respond to any safety concerns reported and notify service manager.
  • Assume full responsibility of Service Department when Service Manager is absent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus five or more years of recent bus, heavy duty truck or automotive dealership repair experience.
  • Excellent mechanical/technical understanding of buses.
  • Good understanding of the bus industry and the needs of our customers.
  • Professional demeanor and cooperative attitude.
  • Highly organized.
  • Good writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Good understanding of government regulations and technical procedures.
  • Excellent problem solving ability.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as product and service markups and discounts, proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to collect data, define problems, interpret technical instructions and reach reasonable conclusions.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel as required.
  • Must have the ability to board vehicles and inspect under vehicles if necessary.
  • Must have the ability to perform all essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • May be required to do frequent kneeling, stooping, squatting, crawling and climbing to perform multiple tasks of position
