Job Summary: We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Credit to lead credit operations across our company. This senior role is responsible for developing and implementing credit policies, managing credit risk, overseeing collections, and ensuring optimal cash flow and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in credit management within the automotive, dealership, fleet, or logistics space and has a proven ability to lead teams, assess complex credit risk, and partner cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct all credit and collections functions across the company’s vehicle sales, fleet services, parts, and upfit operations.
  • Develop and enforce company-wide credit policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Evaluate high-value commercial accounts, including fleet operators, transportation clients, and vendors.
  • Partner with sales, operations, and legal to structure credit solutions that support business growth while managing exposure.
  • Oversee the credit review process for new and existing accounts, including financial statement analysis, trade references, and credit scoring.
  • Maintain and improve metrics such as DSO, bad debt ratio, and cash conversion cycle.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and escalate high-risk accounts to executive leadership with action plans.
  • Manage and mentor a team of credit and collections professionals, including performance management and development planning.
  • Negotiate credit terms, payment plans, and settlements with key accounts and delinquent customers.
  • Interface with external lenders, insurers, and credit agencies (e.g., Dun & Bradstreet) as needed.
  • Oversee legal and regulatory compliance related to credit practices, UCC filings, collections, and lien rights.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in credit management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Industry experience in automotive, dealership financing, transportation, fleet leasing, or logistics required.
  • Deep understanding of credit evaluation, commercial lending structures, lien laws, and transportation contract terms.
  • Strong command of financial analysis, credit scoring models, and ERP systems.
  • Proven track record of improving collections performance, reducing bad debt, and optimizing cash flow.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

Preferred Skills: 

  • Familiarity with OEM financing, floorplan lending, leasing portfolios, and multi-entity environments.
  • Experience in handling legal collections, litigation strategy, and third-party recovery processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to present actionable insights to senior leadership.

Work Environment: 

  • Leadership team, office-based role with occasional travel to customer sites, dealerships, or industry events.
  • High-paced, cross-functional environment requiring both strategic thinking and operational execution.

Pay Range

$135,000 - $155,000
